Baladjie Nature Reserve, Boodarockin, WA 

Gotta love the names of places – yep this area not far from Bullfinch north-east of Perth is called Boodarockin. What a top spot. We spent 5-nights at this off-grid site. There is a toilet that states users need to wait 15mins between flushes – ha! No bins onsite and a sky so bright it was like a light show each night. 

Exploring Baladjie Rock

We climbed up and over Baladjie Rock. We walked around it looking for caves and funky rock formations. We even put our wellies on a walked out into one of the salt lakes to see what it was like. It was salty and muddy, what else can I say. If we had gone much further we would have gotten our boots stuck – ha! Another day, I walked along the edge of a nearby salt lake while Steve was on a work call – thank goodness for the mothership / starlink. The salt lake is mostly dry and there are tracks along the edge from cars, bikes, dogs and kangaroos.

After being overseas, being back amongst the Aussies trees, shrubs, kicking up red dirt and crunching dried leaves and bark plus listening to local birds is such a treat. Gosh we missed this. 

Missy and a kangaroo

One morning, Missy and I were sitting on BLU’s tailgate when she suddenly crouched low. I looked at her and then the direction she was looking and saw the head of a kangaroo looking back at us less than 10 metres away. Mr/s Roo stood motionless for a few moments obviously never having seen a cat before and then bounded away. Missy’s first kanga sighting. Unfortunately I was on the phone at the time so couldn’t get a video of the interaction. Doh!

Amazing rocks

The rock formations we came across on the top of the smaller rock and on top of the main rock were amazing. The wind and water has created some fascinating shapes, holes and patterns.
