Southern Cross, Western Australia

Half way between Perth and Kalgoorlie is Southern Cross. It’s wheatbelt country and has a population of less than 1000. We stopped at the caravan park to fill water tanks, catch up on laundry and restock the fridge. Plus, based on reviews, we had to try the pizza’s from the Railway Hotel – they were so good. Would highly recommend the Tijuana chicken pizza. It was top notch.

The main reason for our stop though was so I could catch the train back to Perth to pick up my renewed passport. Only I could pick it up – doh! The Prospector train ride back & forth made it super easy. I’ve never ridden on the Prospector train before so was excited about the solo adventure. Tickets were easy to book online and the Southern Cross train station made us giggle. We have been to many types of stations in our travels but this one was literally a couple of sheets of tin next to the railway line. We were the first to arrive and based on the size of the place we weren’t sure we were in the right place until we saw a guy walking toward the station from the direction of town. As the train arrival time approached more and more people arrived. Workers heading home, a guy who was visiting family. Turns out it was a busy little station.

Despite the simplicity of it all the train arrived almost on time and passengers were shuffled on board in an organised fashion and it departed within minutes of its arrival. The train ride was about four and half hours and the landscape was beautiful.

While I was away the cat hid!

Steve got some TRU jobs done and took the opportunity to chillax and snuggle when bad weather hit.

Missy did not like the sound of the wind when the storm hit and found the highest spot in the caravan to hide out until she could snuggle with Steve.
